Simply put, a great melodic album. A mix of 70s-80s hard rock and prog metal, with the updated sound. It's not very heavy, yet not light enough to make me want to grab Iced Earth or In Flames. What makes this album special is something you rarely see nowdays -- excellent songwriting! Virtually every song is memorable in its own way: great melodies, thought-provoking lyrics, and intriguing arrangements. And, of course, don't forget the singer himself: Jorn's voice is really cool here (even if not quite as great as in parts of Ark's "Burn The Sun"), he really knows how to use his weapons: just check out "Christine"! Speaking of "Christine," this is one of the best 80s homages I've heard since... well, the 80s. But the rest of the songs aren't bad either, starting from the heavier "Tungur Knivur" and "Bless The Child," and on to the melodic rockers of "House Of Cards" (very good lyrics), "Glow In The Dark," "Sunset Station," and closing "Bridges Will Burn." An excellent work, and all musicians -- Lande, Sid Ringsby (bass), Tore Moren (guitars), and Jan Axel Von Blomberg (known to every black / death fan as "Hellhammer," drums) -- seem to be really into it as well. Special mention goes to the Norwegian black metal master Hellhammer, who does a surprising appearance on this very melodic album: he absolutely smokes the kit. A real musical gem.
