Dionysus is a band made up of former members of some pretty well known bands (well known to Metalheads in any case..heh). You have members from Sinergy, Nation and vocals provided by the vocalist from Luca Turilli’s side project.

Now this isn’t the greatest assortment of talent I have ever seen but it sure isn’t bad and for this album it is pretty damn good. Add to all of this with production from Tommy Newton (Helloween’s classic’s Keeper I and II) and co-produced with the help of Tobias Sammet (The person I have decided to name Golden Boy since everything he is involved in has been excellent) I knew before I even listened to this it would probably be pretty damn good. Well I certainly wasn’t disappointed with the outcome. You can tell from the pedigree of the band that this is power metal and although it is strongly influenced by Helloween (hell what power metal isn’t influenced by Helloween…heh) it isn’t what you could even remotely consider a rip-off. The music is very well written and gives a nod to traditional pure metal as well the obvious power metal influence. The vocals are excellent but I have heard this guy sing before and already knew he was talented. He does seem to sing with a bit more energy or passion on this album compared to his work with Luca. The highlight of the album for me though was the excellent guitar work provided by Johnny Ohlin. The riffs are very good but his solo work is simply incredible. He not only simply shreds but it is done with a lot of feeling as well. There is definitely a neo-classical feel to his playing style which boosts the songs to that extra level and makes them that much more memorable.
Overall an album that I actually had some pretty high expectations for and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Fans of the genre will certainly want to pick this one up. Recommended.

ANIMA MUNDI, the 2004 release from Euro-metal band Dionysus, includes "Bringer of War" and "Paradise Land."

Arriving exactly a year after their perfectly average debut, Dionysus' second album, Anima Mundi, pushes the limits of surefire lawsuit to the breaking point by slapping the semblance of Viggo Mortensen (in full Lord of the Rings Aragorn regalia) on the statue gracing its cover. It also opens with a song -- the speedy "Divine" -- that heavy metal fans will instantly recognize as a blatant karaoke job on power metal masters Helloween -- only with more synthesizers. But that's OK, after all, the power metal subgenre is hardly given to great variety, and one need only sample astoundingly similar follow-up songs like "Heart Is Crying," "Closer to the Sun," and the title track to realize as much. Then again, it's not entirely fair to accuse Dionysus of playing it safe for that same reason, so it's best to highlight their stellar musicianship, crisp melodies, dazzling solos, and vocalist Olaf Hayer's powerful pipes instead. All of these coalesce quite nicely on the convincingly dramatic "What" and the surprisingly accessible (if terribly corny) "March for Freedom," and there's certainly no denying guitarist Luca Turilli's position as one of the most impressive six-string technicians out there -- the guy's fingers just smoke! In summary, if you love power metal, then you'll think Dionysus are the dog's bollocks.

The principal argument of the two precedent albums of Dionysus was the presence of Olaf Hayer that you probably know for his work with Luca Turilli. Their first album was not good at all and extremely boring, when their second one, "Anima Mundi" was a lot better and gave some good hopes for the future. Unfortunately, their new album "Fairytales And Reality" is a come back to the quality of the first album and I really doubt that a lot of people will ever find a real interest in this release.

Keep The Spirit – The Best Of Dionysus is a nice way to say goodbye to their true fans and a great opportunity for everybody else to discover the legacy of one of Europe´s best Power Metal bands.

The fastest guitarist in the world, Tiago Della Vega, plays on this album. That alone makes Believe worth listening. Plus it's a surprisingly excellent album.

And then we have Dotma… the prototype of female fronted gothic metal with all familiar ingredients: a nightingale as female vocalist, some bombast in their symphonic metal, broad keyboard layers, skilled neoclassical guitar solos and a sniff of medieval mysticism in the general presentation.
Dotma hails from Hyvinkää, Finland and is the realization of two young guys (guitarist Lasse Nyman and keyboarder Harri Koskela). 2005. The band was called Dragons Of The Middle Age in the beginning and at that time they wrote two songs and played some gigs. In Autumn 2007 they did their first recordings: three songs. The dragon-theme was diminished and changed into medieval fantasy stories. Now we have a new promo CD with the intention to ink a deal with a label. ‘Dances With The Shadows’ contains three songs, the bit longer (seven minutes) ‘The Cave’ speaks the most to the imagination. In Autumn 2009, Dotma will record a full length album and they hope to release it in January 2010.
I will not prevent them from doing that, since Dotma is quite a seminal band in the genre. Everything is executed in a professional manner, the production is well, Johanna Lesonen is a great singer with a full-blooded and self-assured voice, guitar solos are fine and now and then we can enjoy an acoustic, folksy part, a dark male voice or other ornaments. Of course there is nothing new under the sun, we have heard this all before. But since there are so many Within Temptation and Nightwish fans in this world, I see a serious chance that Dotma will scoop that fiercely desired contract to make their fantasy world come true at full force.

Savatage are a weird, wonderful and mysterious unit, through all their formations and guises over the last 25-30 years. Their sound is completely unique, with the vicious singing talents of Jon Oliva (lead vocals), the strange, offbeat guitar work of his brother Criss Oliva (1978-1993), the pulsating reliability of Johnny Lee Middleton (bass) and whoever occupies the drum stool all create a haunting hard rock vibe. I’ve found every Savatage album that I’ve sat and listened to; impressive, raw and diverse in one way or another and 1986’s “Fight For The Rock” is no different in my opinion. Now it will come as no surprise to tell you that this is my favourite ‘Tage record out of their whole catalogue to date. But, to all Savatage fans and to the band themselves, it is considered to be their worst work. Jon Oliva even said in October 1994: "I've never really been fond of that album.” It is also referred to as “Fight For The Nightmare”. The problem I have, is that I don’t see any problem with this album. It’s very, very good. It appears to be unjustly criticized and slated by the world and his wife for being “commercial”. The fact is, it’s still too “out there”, possibly alienating a wider mainstream audience (although it did chart) yet retains many dark and heavy qualities that should’ve drawn Savatage fans in right off the bat.

One of the best bands I have ever heard. Has a Poison meets Hot Boy sound with a hint of Noize Toys. Every damn track is awesome. Radio is probably my favorite rocker, but the ballads remind me of Lou Gramm with hints of other aor kings. I don't have enough room here to heap enough praise on this one. Has a nice glam/ rock combo and some aor thrown in.

Melodic Death Metal From Finland.

This new Finnish metal band has really did well record label -wise, landing a contract with Nuclear Blast. Unfortunately their album is quite far from perfect. With the exception of few brighter spots, Stained is somewhat boring album. The band performs very well, but the songs are slightly soulless. I do expect Imperanon to succeed well in their career and Stained might be quite popular, as well, but I don't find it that interesting.
